Change is in the air at Heaven's Door, the times they are indeed a-changin'.
Not long ago, we shared news about Heaven's Door, Bob Dylan's whiskey label, taking over a Kentucky distillery and introducing a fresh whiskey. That creation, known as Ascension, has now debuted as a distinct Kentucky straight bourbon, enriching the brand's core selection with its own character.
Heaven's Door's initial whiskey range featured three rebranded sourced spirits: Revival (formerly Tennessee Bourbon), Revelation (formerly Double Barrel Whiskey), and Refuge (now finished in sherry casks as Straight Rye). Additionally, there were exclusive releases like the Decade Series, recently reviewed, and the Bootleg series featuring rare, high-end bottles. This new bourbon partly comes from Six Mile Distillery in Pleasureville, KY. When Heaven's Door acquired the distillery, it inherited all existing whiskey stock and will continue distilling there, overseen by master distiller Ken Pierce.
Ascension combines two bourbons: whiskey from Six Mile, now the Heaven's Door Distillery, and sourced whiskey from elsewhere in Kentucky. Aged for a minimum of five years, it avoids chill filtration and is presented at 92 proof. Its tasting profile highlights caramel, vanilla, and baking spices on the palate, while the aroma boasts popcorn and dried fruit notes. Master blender Alex Moore expressed, "For this exceptional Kentucky bourbon, we meticulously blend each small batch, crafting its distinct flavor profile. We're thrilled to introduce our own Kentucky bourbon to our permanent collection and encourage bourbon enthusiasts to compare it with our award-winning Tennessee bourbon." Both Heaven's Door bourbons share similar mash bills, aging duration, and bottling proof, yet they offer distinctly different bourbon expressions.
Heaven's Door revamped its entire bottle label lineup, placing greater emphasis on Dylan's ironworks imagery. These updated labels will gradually replace the older ones nationwide in the coming months, making the original designs a collector's item worth snagging while available.
